EVANGELISM

There is no reaping without sowing—consider a systematic outreach plan.

Evangelism is the foundation of revival success, and a structured outreach plan ensures the best return on investment.

There is a time to begin door hangers and evangelism that will be the most effective for your event.

  1. Direct Mailers – These have the longest shelf life. While some people hold onto mailers for months, the highest response comes when they arrive a week before the event. Since approval by the post office takes time, planning should start 3 to 4 months in advance. In some cases, mailers can go out 2–3 weeks prior, but one week before is optimal.

  2. Door Hangers & Flyers – These are effective because people will keep them in their pocket or on their desk for a while. Distribution should begin a month before the event in the areas farthest from the church and move inward week by week. However, 85% of distribution should take place in the final two weeks, with the most effort focused on busy shopping areas, large events, and high-traffic locations.

  3. Yard Signs – Placement varies based on local regulations. If a city does not allow signs to remain up, they should be placed out the weekend before the event and then removed before the enforcement period begins. In other areas, signs can go up one week before the revival.

  4. Social Media – While general posts can be shared a month or more in advance, serious digital outreach should begin two weeks prior to the event. The most engagement happens 10 days before the revival, as people are more likely to act on recent information. Facebook events can be created earlier because Facebook itself will remind people as the event nears. Boosted ads should be reserved for the final two weeks for the greatest impact.

If you aren't familiar with sending outreach teams through the city, we've got you covered.

Outreach must be strategically placed to maximize effectiveness.

  1. Direct Mailers – Best for high-income neighborhoods, gated communities, and rural homes where door-to-door outreach is impractical.

  2. Door Hangers & Flyers – Most effective in lower-income areas, apartment complexes, subsidized housing, trailer parks, and high-density neighborhoods. Personal interaction and physical materials increase response rates in these locations.

  3. Social Media – Reaches all income levels but is particularly effective in middle-income demographics. Targeted ads should focus on local engagement and community sharing.

For churches unsure of where to send mailers or conduct outreach, resources like Google Maps, U.S. Census data, and demographic research can identify high-density areas, income levels, and family populations. A data-driven strategy can double or triple outreach effectiveness, ensuring revival efforts have the greatest impact.
